so it’s actually a goal in life to take a road trip every year. last year i drove totally across the country from california to new york to south carolina and back to denver again. it was awesome.
this year, as many of you know, i’ll be flying out to new york to spend the last few days in the home of my youth. my parents are planning to move by the end of july and it’s freakin me out man!!! but anyway, i’ll be with them for a bit and then driving back with the potcheen folk band where all my dreams of being the ultimate groupie will come true. hahahaha.
so yea, travel makes us disconnect in order to reconnect. i’ve always believed that. ever since i was a kid, i have found great value in getting in a car for a few days or a week or however long you can and going somewhere you dont go every day. my parents took us on vacations every summer. my dad was a school teacher and some summers he worked at other jobs but always took time off for us to get away. we didnt have a ton of money but we managed to do quite a lot. both sets of grandparents lived in florida for awhile so we got to drive down the east coast and go to disney world a few times. we also went camping pretty much every summer at least once, and usually went to pennsylvania to visit this farm and our mennonite friends. good times.
i have to say that as i get older i appreciate my parents’ attitude toward travel and exploring more and more. they just got back from alaska which was a lifelong dream of theirs. my dad’s retired these days, but they are busier than ever, and doing all the things they love most. it’s really pretty inspiring. we’ll see how much they love having the potcheen crew at their house though. let’s hope they still feel adventurous …
